Prague Stage Publishing House = Independent Venue

The PRAGUE STAGE publishing house offers the earnest views at important cultural and art themes in particular at theatre by the noted authors of the present days.
    In the 1993, its activities began with the monography of the famous Czech theatre director Josef Krofta (in English, French and Czech) followed by volume non conventional A–Z Prague Culture Guide (in English) and many others books about theatre theory, history, ensembles, theatre directors, stage design, art, typography, design, film, media; in series The Bequest of Jan Grossman – great Czech theatre director, Theatre and Art Movement Prague Five, Golden Sixties, Czech Alternative, Underground and Fringe Theatre (dictionary Alt.divadlo / Alt.theatre, Next Wave – Anthology of Czech alternative, fringe and underground theatre, almanach Orghast 2002 etc.), series Comedy, etc.
    Next to Jan Grossman the attention of the PRAGUE STAGE publishing house is driven towards important personalities of contemporary Czech theatre: directors from Josef Krofta, Petr Lébl, Karel Kříž, J. A. Pitínský to Vladimír Morávek and others; and also theatres and companies (Theatre DRAK / International Institute of Figurative Theatre Hradec Králové, Opera Furore / Opera Mozart, Theatre Sklep – Cellar etc.).
    Already over 75.000 volumes of PRAGUE STAGE publishing house have been published – also in English language: Josef Krofta – The Tower of Babel, A–Z Prague Culture Guide, Czech Puppets, Jaroslav Malina – monography of great personality of Czech contemporary stage design and fine arts, Theatre DRAK / International Institute of Figurative Theatre, Opera Furore – Opera Mozart, Three Decades OISTAT etc., as well in Japanese, German and French languages.
    The person of the publisher of the PRAGUE STAGE, a small publishing company, connects the former success of the “Scéna” (Stage) bi-weekly which became cultural front?s significant opposition  platform before 1989. Jan Dvořák has been an editor and an editor-in-chief for many years in the “Scéna” editorial department.
    The PRAGUE STAGE publishing house offers sophisticated analyses of current trends in theatre, from renowned contemporary Czech authors, and is annually mentioned by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic in its directory “Books from the Czech Republic”. It participates regularly in expositions of the Czech Republic at book fairs in Frankfurt, Leipzig, and in Jerusalem. To its Czech audience PRAGUE STAGE introduces itself at the Czech book fairs “World of Books” at Prague. PRAGUE STAGE has been since 1993 a member of the Corporate Association of Czech booksellers and publishing houses.
